EMBRAPA LAUNCHES LIVESTOCK SIMULATOR FOCUSED ON PRODUCER PROFITABILITY

Developed for full-cycle systems, the technology allows users to “test” productive and financial scenarios, defining spending limits so that new investments become profitable.

On this Wednesday’s edition (1st) of Giro do Boi, a tool was presented that promises to be a game changer in farm management: the Pecuaria.io Simulator. Developed by Embrapa Pecuária Sul (Bagé/RS) in partnership with InovaTech, the simulator offers a free and intuitive interface that allows producers to “test” their decisions in a digital environment before investing real money.
The launch featured researcher Vinícius Lampert and InovaTech CEO Thomás Capiotti, who explained how algorithm-based intelligence is simplifying decision-making for producers.

What is the Pecuária.io Simulator?

The platform is a modeling system accessible via mobile or computer that allows producers to design productive and financial scenarios in real time.
Currently, the tool is ideal for systems involving cow-calf, backgrounding, and finishing operations. A version dedicated exclusively to cow-calf systems is expected to be released in October 2026.
Although created in Rio Grande do Sul, the simulator already operates in 18 Brazilian states and 3 countries, and is fully customizable for different breeds (zebu or taurine) and biomes.
Features: transforming data into decisions
The simulator translates complex Embrapa algorithms into simple reports, focusing on the indicators that truly impact profitability:
Herd structure: projects the evolution of animal categories (cows, calves, steers) over the years.
Zootechnical indicators: allows simulation of adjustments in weaning rate, mortality, slaughter age, and stocking rate per hectare.
Sensitivity analysis: shows how changes (e.g., reducing slaughter age from 3 to 2 years) impact revenue and cash flow.
Financial management: automatically calculates cost per head/month and cost per arroba produced.
Reversing the logic: “how much can I spend?”

The main innovation of Pecuária.io is helping producers define their investment ceiling. Instead of only recording past costs, the tool projects future scenarios.
The simulator shows how much a producer can spend on a technology (such as supplementation or pasture renovation) so that the new scenario is more profitable than the current one.
The user sets a goal (e.g., “I want to wean 1,000 calves”), and the system calculates backwards to determine the required area and fertility rates needed to achieve that target.
Benefits of using simulators in livestock farming
Benefit | Technical Description | Practical Outcome |
Predictability | Anticipates results of management changes | Lower risk in new investments |
Ease of use | User-friendly interface for smartphones | Strategic management anywhere |
Customization | Input real farm data (prices, weights) | Analysis aligned with reality |
Applied science | Translates Embrapa algorithms into insights | Data-driven decision-making |
The Pecuária.io simulator is not meant to replace technical consulting, but to enhance it. By providing solid numerical insights, it gives producers the confidence needed to invest.
“If you know your spending limit, you invest to achieve the projected profit,” said Thomás Capiotti.
